Pohick Church area map
The Pohick Episcopal Church:
9301 Richmond Highway (U.S. Rte. 1). The Church was built from 1767 to 1774, and
the site and building plans were selected by vestryman George Washington. The churchyard contains graves of
early Americans including Revolutionary War soldiers. We shall sing in the acoustically lively Common Room of
the Parish Hall next to the historic church, which will be open for sightseeing.
Driving: From Rte. I-95 south of the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 163(Rte. 642) towards Lorton; go one mile to U.S. Rte. 1 (follow signs). Turn
left on Rte. 1 and go for one mile to Pohick Church, which is on the right. Look for a historic plaque.
Taking this route from points north will be complicated by the construction at the I95/I-495 Springfield
interchange; the alternate route may be less congested especially on Friday evening.
Alternate Route: From Beltway Exit 1A, take U.S. Rte. 1 south and drive 11.4 miles to the church on the left.
This route is a commercial corridor with many stoplights. Look for a left turn at the light at Old Colchester Road.
Parking: There are two church parking lots - one just off Old Colchester Road, and one accessible from
Richmond Highway. No public transportation on weekends. If you need a ride, contact Gillie Campbell
several days in advance [contact information deleted].
Traffic: Please try to arrive in the Washington area earlier than 5 PM in order to get to the New Traditions Singing
on time.

44 (formerly exit 13) onto Route 193, Georgetown Pike; proceed west toward Great Falls, VA. (If coming on I-495
from Maryland, you must exit onto a right service lane just after the Potomac River bridge.) Travel west on
winding Rte. 193 toward Great Falls for 6.2 miles to the red-brick Grange on the right, next to the public library
and just prior to the Village shopping center. B. If approaching from the west on Rte. 7, turn eastward onto
Rte. 193 at Dranesville and go 3.1 miles east to Great Falls Village and continue 0.2 mile to the Grange on the left.
Park in lots and spaces for the Grange only.
The site of the Saturday social is the home of Tom and Cathy Tucker, about 4.5 miles north of Pohick via Telegraph Rd.
A map and directions will be provided at the convention.
